a little history, my truck sat for about a year up to a month ago when i started driving it again. just local driving close to the house and back lately. so here's the deal. the first day i drove it, the back passenger side brake was dragging for a mile or so but broke free. i figured because of sitting, right. well its done it again a couple more times. i ran my ae for other reasons the other day and got a ABS code " forget the #'s now" and the speedo didnt work for about the first ten min. the other day also. the brake hung up again today on my way to work, so i stopped and unplugged the speed sensor on the rearend to see if that would help. " i know its tied in to ABS" well it didnt drag the rest of the way , but could have just freed up while i was stopped, luck maybe. who knows . on my way home it hung up more just a min. when i hit the highway, then released. could have just been jelled up from getting over heated earlier, not sure.
so does that sensor have anything to do with it, or some thing else, or do i just need a new caliper. sorry about the book , and thank for your input.
chris
Sounds like the slide pins where the caliper mounts (they aren't sliding). Also, if it were me I would bleed all the old fluid out of that system and replace it (the fluid). You may as well service the slide pins all around while you are at it. I doubt your ABS sensor is a culprit for the brake dragging. It only senses the gears in your rear end and and reports the findings to the computer.
The ABS system only releases the brakes at the point of lockup. The sensor tells the system when the wheel is on the verge of lockup. This system NEVER applies the brakes.
The likely source of the problem has been mentioned earlier. Slide pins and brake fluid.
fixed, turned out to be a broken pad that a portion of the brake pad was getting wedged between the rest of what was left of the pad and the rotor . go figure. also blew the piston seal while i was compressing it so i just bought a new caliper. greezed all the slide pins also , they were do . thanks again. chris
ya the front ones are next on my long list of todo's to the truck. since i had the back right caliper off it was easy to replace all the fluid in the system, but i still need to bleed the two front lines . i dont have the big garage all the way cleaned up yet, so i just did this in the drive way. it was dark when i finished up last night. thanks to all for some good advice. chris
