Whistle while working?

Ok Folks.
A fella I work with has an 08 F450, with the 6.4. He recently has been hearing a whistle while building boost (not normal turbo whistle, he say's). Then this last week the truck would not make more than 10lbs of boost. Took it to a local dealer, and they charged him for an EGR valve, and some diagnostic fee's (that fixed his boost/runnability issues). They told him their "opinion" was the whistle is the exhaust manifold gaskets, and that the cab had to come off to repair one side.
So the question is, Do any of you 6.4 ltr folks know what the whistle may be?
Does the cab have to be removed to fix Exhaust gaskets?
Could the whistle be something from the failed EGR valve?
He say's he is building normal boost, and the truck run's fine, just has an annoying whistle.
The truck has around 150,000miles.
Thanks

Whistle and EGR valve would be different items in different locations. Not related.

Was the EGR not covered under the 100K/5 year warranty? Or too many miles on it? EGR valves having issues is rare. Lots of idleing?

Cab does not have to come off. That is the preferred method of work though. If I was to do a repair myself though the cab is staying on.

there have been some with the turbo whislte. Usually if you are tuned and no dpf/cat you might here it. Or if you downpipe was misaligned or something.

First I have heard of exhaust manifold gaskets as the cause.

The truck is around 150,000miles. Truck is not Deleted/tuned. All stock. The Fella that bought this truck "had" to have an F-450 to pull his 5th wheel. The same 5th wheel he pulled for years with a half ton 80's style Chevy with a 305cuin. The truck I doubt ever get's to running temperature, as it only get's driven 10 miles each way in his daily commute. The dealer told him they never have egr valve issues, but they replaced it anyways. He said it is making a different whistling noise than normal, in certain RPM range, whether moving or power braking to that RPM range.
So basically he bought way too much truck, to use as a daily driver, and pull a 30' 5th wheel. Doesn't have any idea about how it works, and seems to be too lazy to research it on his own. So I was trying to help him out.......However the more I think about it, He thinks he has more money than brains, and can take it to the dealer, and than whine about junk fords.

I thought about this for a couple of hours now, and as sad as it is to say, I don't want to help him, as he doesn't want to help himself. If he truly was worried he would be posting here, I told him several times to come here, search/ask. Instead he spent $600 for an "egr valve that we never have problems with" and "our opinion is it is the exhaust manifold gaskets, and we will have to pull the cab to diagnose".
Thanks for the reply Scott!
Edit: On 2nd thought, Maybe I just want to Know! (Not sure why, as I will never own a 6.4, or another newer diesel ever, they are just way to complex, and a gasoline engine will work for my need's).

A boot would result in no boost and a loud burst of air..for lack of a better discription on my part.

slowman's I'd agree up pipes could also be a factor.

Thought I would update this just because....
I am not sure what was causing the whistle, but he finally took it to a competant garage, and they found a pin hole in the fuel rail, and 3 bad injectors. They also replaced an EGT sensor that the other garage misinstalled. This garage contacted Ford, and Ford payed for the parts (about $1800) and the fella paid the labor. So he spent $3000 out of his pocket (about $1000+or- was unneccesary), and He is very happy with the way Ford, and Zook Motor's took care of him!
(This truck is way out of warranty, in beautiful shape, and is a drop dead gorgeous F-450)
So there is the update. If he would have listened to me, and came to this site, and went to the garage, recommended to him, he would have saved some cash, and heartache.
