'94 F350 Tailgate got slammed shut and now I can't get it open. Took the plate off and the pass. side latch rod is stuck in the open position. Driver side works fine. I have held it open, whacked it, sprayed it, pushed/pulled on rod. No movement... Any ideas??
Have had this situation here at work. Same thing, one latch in the closed position when they slammed the gate shut.
By your description, it sounds like you have the gate open now? But the latch is jammed shut on one side? Try using vise grips on the rod and whack it with hammer. Should jolt it enough to unlatch it.
Few times I've had to fix ours, the gate was shut and wouldn't open. whacking the vise grips gave it enough hit to unlatch the one side again(that was pinched tight).
Yup, it's in a good bind. Maybe if you jack one corner up to relief if?? Try either side. Might let go when you hit the vise grips then?
Maybe have someone/something push hard against the tight side to help relief tension on latch?? Back truck against something with a 4x4 pushing on top corner of tailgate. Protect as needed, don't know if this is a nice truck or not?
