Heater control lights?

Hello fellow FTEers, should my 79 f150 have illuminated heater controls? Sure would be nice. I took it apart today and couldn't find any bulbs or wires hanging behind the controls. This leads me to believe that they didn't have this option? Also how about the PRND21? This would also be nice to have. Any information on either of these would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

Both items you mention are supposed to light up. The heater controls use a small pigtail that is press-fit into the back of the panel. The gear selector light is part of the turn signal switch.

Oh good, ok first question what color should the wires be for the heater control light? It wouldn't surprise me if they were cut off back there somewhere. Lol. Second question, can I change the bulb in the turn signal switch or do I need a new switch? Thanks for the help.

The gear selector bulb is behind the selector panel. You have to remove the plastic collar at the dash to get to the bulb socket.

The heater selector bulb is a 194 and the color of the wires is blue and black. The OE wiring is tight to the side if the control selector. The bulb socket is in the middle of the back of the selector.

See above reply, the selector bulb is an 1816 IIRC.

Ok, so for the heater control I'm looking for one solid blue wire and one solid black wire? Also is the bulb socket molded into the plastic? Thanks for the help.

No it is a removable socket. You really can't miss it unless it is not there then there should be a hole in the controller.

Its definitely not connected to the heater controller and I don't remember seeing a hole for the socket but then I didn't know what I was looking for, lol. You wouldn't have a picture of this? Sorry for being a PITA.

No picture, if the socket is gone there should be a spot for it.

Here are a couple of pictures of the heat control panel and pig tail.
I don't have any of the gear selector.
The first picture is the light pigtail. The second you can see the hole that the light fits in.

Thank you for the correction; I was thinking of something else. Sometimes it's hard to keep everything straight.

So do I have to remove the wheel to get at the bulb? Or can I just remove this collar and get access to it that way? Thanks again.

Thanks mike now I know exactly what I'm looking for. I have a feeling that wiring pigtail is going to be cut off and missing.

Just the plastic collar. You do not have to remove the steering wheel. When I originally responded, I was thinking of an earlier-model turn signal switch and I was incorrect. ranger429 was able to catch my mistake.
