Wow, that battery is jacked! Lol. I pulled the XS Power battery out of my F150 today so I can use it in my PSD. It was being charged by Mean Green alternator with no issues. I will be adding a 270 amp alternator this week, so if high amp charging is a problem, we should know soon. Lol
I just talked to XS and he had me send him a picture. Don't know what is going to happen yet, he has to wait until his boss gets in. Here is the catch if you have read their warranty. We have to pay shipping back to them!!!!! IF they determine its a bad battery, they will ship me a new one at their cost. If its not a bad battery I have to pay them to ship it back to me. No matter what, I have to pay shipping to get it to them for inspection. This is giving me a bad taste in my mouth already. If they have the ***** to tell me the battery is OK and I have to pay shipping back to me I'll tell them to shove it up their as*. Reading 12.6 volts, according to their charts, is 80% charged and it just came out of my pickup. That thing is heavy, I bet it costs alot to ship.
Talked to Matt at XS Power and he called it 'thermal running' and they wouldn't warrant it. It was hard for me to keep my cool but I did. I explained that I have a good running, well maintained pickup and I don't get it hot, which I don't. He offered me a replacement for $200 and I said no, its defective and bad workmanship on their part. I mentioned that I could get on alot of forums and discuss this ordeal. He said they monitor the forums, like that's suppose to mean any thing to me. I asked to speak to his boss and he said I'll let you talk to the president Scotty. They had me on hold a long time then he came on the speaker phone. I insisted that I have a well maintained pickup and this should not have happened. He keep talking about the heat causing what he was looking at in the picture. I keep saying that at that price I thought I was buying the best and its not a race car, drag racer, sand climber, etc. He offered me the same deal and I said no. He then said he would throw in a thermal blanket for both batteries. I said I want a new battery. Then he finally said to call Summit and see what they would do. Thirty seconds on the phone with Summit and I have a new battery coming, back ordered until the 26 but still ordered. Buy all your stuff from Summit, he never asked me to ship the battery back, he didn't even asked me what was wrong with it. I just said it was bad. So, I called XS Power back and talked to someone else. I said I was Glenn, he interupted and said they they all know me, LOL. Must have had the whole staff in his office when he had me on speaker phone. I said I would take them up on their free offer of the thermal blankets. That's the end of my battery deal unless they change their minds. Again, I'm super impressed with Summit, buy from them!!
That was excellent of Summit for sure! XS, not so much.
Good on Summit! I'm really surprised that XS wouldn't warranty it... That's pretty jacked up. I guess I understand now why Motorcraft batteries come with those blankets though. LOL.
This battery was on the passenger side, where do you suppose all this heat came from? I don't think its close enough to anything. Sure, its gets warm climbing Mt. Everest (LOL Travis) but I've never let it get hot. It just doesn't get hot, even on a all out clime. Its a good little PSD!! I still think it a defective battery.

Maybe the 6637 was pulling enough cool air around the driver's side battery that it kept it from doing the same thing.
Looking back 13 months, I almost went the wrong way with this. My first contact was with XS Power. I was thinking about ordering with them until they said they were back ordered. So I thought I would look around. Every body was back ordered. I was buying something from Summit and noticed that they listed the batteries. So, I just ordered thru them and waited. IF I had ordered thru XS, I would have been screwed.
This approach by companies to try to get you to spend a little more, to me, sends up red flags. The same thing happened to me on Dishnetwork the other day. My receiver screwed up, I called and complained and they offered me showtime and stars for a year at half price. I said, what your asking me to do is spend more money, even if its half price! I said no, he transfered me to another person who offered me $10 off my bill for the next year, I said OK. All they want is your money, even if its not the full amount!!

Interesting theory Bill. Or, maybe pulling all the cool air over leaving the hot air on the passerger side. OH, that's right, she sits over on that side, LOL

Hehe...either way the air forcing its way between the hood and grille(remember that old air box entrance) should be plenty to not let the air get stagnent.its not like you had a bonnet on covering the grille.this is one I have never heard of...sounds like hawg warsh...especially since the drivers was fine...I sincerely hope some douche canoes are spying like a bunch of cowardly little kids...I had though about one of their batts for my street rod...customer srevice after the sale is paramount for me! Cause otherwise they won't get my next sale...and believe me,working at a hot rod shop, there WILL be a next time.I will add them to my list of not to buy from!
I will probably keep using XS Power batteries, but I will make sure to buy from Summit from now on. With these two batteries I will have to go through either Crutchfield or Mechman if I have problems. LOL. The amount of power the batteries offer is just above and beyond that of the Motorcrafts, Optimas, Interstates, etc. It's a shame that they failed to warranty that battery.. It really is.. It does have me trying to find something comparable in power and reserve capacity, but so far I haven't found anything.
