I just replaced my reg. starter out for a ford racing mini starter. I followed the instructions that came with the mini starter. It said that I need to swap my battery cable from post A on my starter relay to post B and hook up the starter cable to post B also. Then there is a 12 gauge wire coming from the solenoid on the starter and the instructions says that needs to go onto post A. I did just that and now my truck doesn't want to start. It turns over just find but nothing happens. Has anyone installed this starter on their truck?
Any suggestions would be great. I'm ready to throw a match to this truck!!!!!!
It's a 77 2wd f150 custom with a rebuilt 300 with an offy intake and a 500 edelbrock with headman headers. Also did the 3G upgrade and a electric fan.
I hooked the big wire from the starter to the main or same side as the battery on the selnoid ,then put the small wire to the starter on the side that had the the old starter wire on it
have to make sure the that your not back feeding the starter and not getting power to the rest of the truck ,i.e.the dura-spark feed
on a side note i got a aux fuse/relay box out of a newer t-bird to control or supply power to the extras under the hood then the plan is to use the old start relay to feed half the fuse box when the key is on then the other half willl be hot all the time http://www.oldengine.org/unfaq/FordSolenoid.jpg
What are you calling post A, and post B? The diagram posted above is correct, and accurately reflects what is called for in the Ford Racing instructions. One clarification, however: the magenta wire labelled "start" is the RED with BLUE stripe wire coming from the truck. It goes to the 'S' post of the original starter solenoid. It does not get touched during the swap.
The only thing related to the starting system that could possibly affect the ignition system is if you removed the wire going to the 'I' post of the starter solenoid. This signal remains untouched before and after the swap.
The instructions shows the A post ( terminal on the starter realy )closest to the battery and the B post or terminal on the opposite side of relay. It says to attach the thick starter cable lug to te B post side along with your battery cable.
Maybe I'm reading it wrong. I will follow waswoski's diagram tomorrow morning. I hope it starts. Thanks guys
