alrighty guys...if i can get my engine to turn over by 12 pm tomorrow (12/24), my friend said he can come over to set the distributor and im ready to go! i wanted to check to make sure i have the starter wired correctly. when i turn the key over all i get is a loud click (may be bad ground...i am going to replace the bat. cables tomorrow morning...what else could it be?). the way i have my starter wired is the neg wire goes to the starter and is ground to the body. the pos wire goes to the starter relay and from there a small wire goes to the starter. also there is a large wire going straight from the pos terminal to the starter. here is a very detailed (haha ya right) drawing of what i just explained. thanks for the help...any input is welcome.

Ok-- here is your answer from a 92 shop manual. Cable from bat + to starter solenoid( starter relay ) cable from solenoid to starter. The diagram shows a smaller wire (red) from the bat + to the some where on the starter( the gauge of the wire not stated) NOTE this wire may come from the battery + connection on the starter solenoid rather than from the battery. Ground to engine block--> " ground A-- starter mounting bolt" <--and body (ground strap). There is a wire on the starter relay (fender mounted solenoid) from the ignition system ( operates the solenoid). Would be easier if we could post pictures!!!
Hope this makes some sense. If this doesn't make sense send me an email with your email address and I will send you a copy of the page from the manual. Most good ford repair books have wiring diagrams in them, a good investment.
