new 4r70w problems

Ive got a 2000 4x4 F-150 with a 4.6 and a 4r70w. The transmission and transfercase were replaced by the P.O aprox 2,000 miles before i bought it..

i was driving it today, and while accelerating it missed a shift into 3rd, then nothing no forward or reverse, i sat and messed with the gears for a while then suddenly it shifted into 1st now it drives with a slight resistance, revs up to about 3K before shifting and shifts HARD up and down, and i cannot get over 40 mph its at about 2800 rpms and feels like im hitting a rev limiter wont shift again and wont accelerate anymore..

when at that speed i hit the od off and it downshifts so i think i still have od? im not 100% on whats happening at ALL i can take a video if that will help

thanks alot guys!!

Dumb, but basic question. Have you checked the transmission fluid? For color, smell, and viscosity?

How unlucky can you be.
Now you got transmission problems, internally.
If it was a used unit from a yard, no telling what you got.
Good luck.

yes the fluid is at the correct level and still clean, but now its leaking a significant ammount between the trans and transfercase....this is a brand new unit trans and transfercase... is there a possibility that the computer thinks its in 4wheel drive and limiting the speed?

The computer does no 'thinking'.
4X4 is controlled by a stand alone module called a GEM.
The only time the computer gets involved is 4L when the transfer case motor signals it is in 4L and to change the shift program in the computer for that low range operation.
You can't get the trans into 4L without being stopped, in neutral and foot on the brake and switch in 4L position...
If you have no 4x4 dash lamp on it's not in anything but 2H.
If it was in 4wd the steering would get stiff.
Sorry to hear about the leak.
You have an issue now with who is going to warrenty the transmission.
Find out who replaced it and if they will help with it.
Otherwise you bought the problem unknown at the time.
Good luck.

There is no cutoff speed.
In 4L the computer up/down shift program is modified from the external 4L request through a dedicated signal lead because of the very low speed ratio through the tranfer case.
Sounds like now you have something out of adjustment with the shift control.
I thought you had shift on the fly.
If you want to get the truck out of this situation for now, remove the case motor and move the shift rod back to 2H.
Make sure the motor is rotated back to 2H and re-mount the motor.
Don't try it again until your ready to work on the problem.
Good luck.

And you're transmission shifter is in neutral while being stopped, as stated previously, before shifting transfer case thru neutral to low?
Just checking if you missed that.
