Okay mine switch is broke so the fogs dont work but the headlights and brights do, i installed brand new fog lamps so i know the bulbs are good, Can i install a toggle switch in the cab to turn them on and off whenever i want ? can i cut the wires from behind the switch and run to the toggle switch ? Or can i have some sort of directions on how to do this ? Thanks !
Open the feed to those lights 'outside' the cab at some point.
Install a relay with it's contacts feeding the Fog lamps through a 15 amp fuse at the battery, for safety.
Power one side of the relay winding from the same battery connection.
Then all you need is a 'single lead' into the cab to your switch.
When you close the switch all you do is supply a ground from the cab switch to the relay's other side of it's winding.
This way you don't have to cut or get the dash switch out.
Splice one lead back and your stock again if you replace the dash switch.
Consider the fuse panel cover for a rocker switch location.
Easy to feel for without looking and unseen.
I have this setup but switch between the factory lights and yellow fogs using the dash switch power.
The reason the factory switch is set up the way it is, is when you go high beam it cuts off the fog lamps power.
It's been like this since at least 1980 to meet states law.
With your new circuit, that feature will no longer work when not fed through the dash head light switch.
Good luck
At the positive battery post connect, an in line fuse holder with a 30 amp rating. Find this at an auto parts store.
Connect off the fuse holder with #12 stranded wire to the relay location.
The relay location should be at the point you are accessing the Fog light circuit.
Connect one relay heavey contact 'and' one side of the relay winding togather.
Other heavey contact to the light circit.
Other side of the relay winding to your switch in the cab with a single wire of #16 or 18 gage wire.
At the dash switch, connect the other side of the switch to a ground.
Use good electricl parts and workmanship so it is reliable and dress/tie wrap or tape all leads so they are not flying loose and there are no open connections to ground out..
Good luck.
Now come on!
Take a look at the Fog lamps and see which side is grounded.
It will be the other lead.
Look at the color code and find the same common color coded wire feeding both lamp positives..
