Quick question. I have a 600 cfm eddy 1405 model for my truck. I know the difference in vacuum and mechanical secondaries..bit was curious..cuz I know some guys say the 1405 is vacuum secondary..but the secondary butterflys open up about half way when the throttle lever is rotated..so wouldn't it be mechanical?
Well..I started thinking..cuz the carb has a counterbalanced shutter that opens and closes over the secondaries. I didn't know if this was to open once the vacuum was high enough in the secondaries..almost like a hybrid mech./vacuum? I'm no good with carbs so I was curious and linkage opens the butterflys all the way
It is mechanical , i have one and i have a Carter AFB just like it with mechanical linkage. Edelbrock is a copy of Carter . If you hold that counter balance open so you can see down in it and move the throttle linkage . It will start opening up the rear ones when it's about half way. They work okay if you keep the linkage adjusted correct. I'v had mine since 1992 and had very few problems with it. I did get the linkage off once and it did run like crap and try to stall out when i kicked it down. But that was my fault for not adjusting it right.
Oh, by the way ,some guys don't like them at all and for racing the holley is on top most of the time.
Meh..I'm no racer. Just a street cruiser..I just need something that won't pose much problems and just make me go
I'm not in to racing, hill climbing, ect. ,but i do like dependability and the Edelbrock has been trouble free for me. If not i would have not kept it 15 years and used it on a number of engines. I have replaced the small parts 3 or 4 times ,but that is just part of maintaining it. Easy to adjust and go. I'v never owned a Holley that never leaked around the bowls after letting it sit a few weeks. Some guys like to tinker with the Holley to get more out of it and that's okay if it's their thing ,I'm just one that don't like to fool around with them.
