I have a 1985 F250 with 460 and C6. All of the emissions has basically been removed. The EGR is still in place as well as the Holley 4180C-4V. I am replacing this carb with an Edelbrock 750cfm electric choke.
Now for the tough part. The previous owner removed said emissions and in the process did some handi-work with the vacuum lines. As of now, my vacuum advance line hooks directly into the manifold at a 3-way threaded in tee. From this tee, another vacuum line hooks into the EGR port on the top left of the Holley. The third vacuum port on the tee is plugged off. Looking at the decal under the hood, the vacuum advance should have been hooked up to the center port of the VCV valve on the water neck. (nothing is currently hooked up to this.) The top port of the VCV should hook up to the "spark port" on the bottom left of the Holley.(This port is capped on the Holley) The bottom port looks to go directly to the manifold. With this configuration, everything seems to run okay, but I am wondering how I should connect the vacuum advance with the new Edelbrock. I don't know for sure if the advance was set up for ported or full vacuum or both through the VCV. Should I use the ported or full vacuum ports on the Edelbrock? Should I use the VCV valve in some form?
Also, my truck has about 16 in Hg of vacuum. The previous owner installed a Crane RV cam when he built the motor. Would this explain the lack of normal vacuum?
Sorry so long. I wanted to give you guys as much info as possible.
Can I just hook the vacuum advance up to the ported vacuum port on the Edelbrock? Has anyone else got a similar setup? I pick up the carb tomorrow and want to get it set up right.
Hook the Vac advance to the ported vacuum port on the front of the Edelbrock. (It' s the left one I think), it should have no vacuum until the throttle is opened..
Jimmy
As Jimmy said hook up the distributor to the ported vacuum on the Edelbrock carb. Go directly to the carb not through any of the switches. On the Edelbrock the ported vacuum is on the passenger side of the carb.
I do not know what impact that cam may have on your vacuum idle readings. Radical cams will lower vacuum a lot. I would give Crane a call and ask them.
