Either stuff a rag in the defroster ducts or use a magnetic tipped screwdriver or have one of those long reach magnetic pickup tools handy. A screw will drop in there.

I bought a cap that goes on over the old one. You must cut away any part of the old one that gets in the way of the new part that is the curled up material where the old pad cracked. That is pretty easy and it fit perfectly. I chose not to glue it down since it fit tight and stays in place by friction. Delivered, a little over a C note. You can find them by searching for a dash, cap, cover, etc.
