Just wondering, in my 94 f-150 my dash is cracked pretty bad on the passenger side, is there any way to repair the cracks? or shoudl I just be looking out for a new dash? any ideas greatly appreciated!
thanks
There are some kits to repair small cracks but I never had a lot of luck with them. Parts stores sell them and you might want to try anyway.
Other options besides replacing the dash are dash carpets and dash covers. The carpets are cut to fit and lay over the dash. Don't look too bad and some people use them just to protect a good dash. The covers are plastic, formed to fit over and made to appear leather grained. Use silicone to put them on and you can paint them to match your interior.
I've used the plastic and they work really well....not inexpensive....but a lot easier that replacing the whole dash.
I've seen kits to repair cracked dashes, but have my doubts as to how well they work. What I have seen that look good are color-matched plastic dash caps (can get at JC Whitney) that fit the contour of the upper dash and adhere with either adhesive or adh backed tape. Had one for my Pinto back in the day and it made the dash look like new, and the cap looked just like the factory dash.
Other alternative is finding a used replacement dash top.
well, I was talking about the vinyl part on the top, however the plastic under the daash that holds it all together is broken as well.... when my father had the same truck a few years back the same thing happened to his, so i had used some epoxy glue to try to hold it together, it lasted a while, but eventually broke again... any good suggestions about that as well? cause I am going to need to try and fix that as well...
thanks

the side piece does have a kit from ford, but it is just an L shaped metal piece.
i used metal screen and epoxy, has lasted over 4 years.
The dash "pad " is held on with 6 screws/nuts if remember right . Alot of guys just get l bracket and make the part. Let us know price of the Dealer fix. I got one to do soon.
I just got done refurbishing the interior on my 96 f-250 and replacing any cracked trim pieces. Although I could not figure out how to completely remove the dash I loosened it enough to be able to mask off around it. I ended up trying out that color bond paint that LMC truck advertises in their catalogs. I just got done with everything last week so
I can’t comment on how it will hold up over time but I can say that I was VERY satisfied and impressed on how it went on, finished, and matched exactly. It’s a little on the expensive side but in my opinion it was worth it.
Anyhow, while I had it apart I figured I would replace that famous plastic dash bracket. Mine was still intact but with my luck as soon as I put everything back together it would snap.A buddy at a local Ford dealership tracked one of the kits down out of I believe Tennessee. I spent the better part of an hour yesterday grinding out the rivets and removing the old bracket only to discover….it was metal! Either it came through with the metal bracket or somebody already beat me to this repair. Needless to say I was pissed. Not only did I go through all the aggravation of getting this kit and removing the old bracket but now I’m out $25.00 for a kit I have no use for. Worse thing is I had to use the rivets from the new bracket to reinstall my old bracket so I can’t even sell this new kit as complete.
If anyone needs this repair bracket and would be willing to toss me a few bucks so I can recoup some of my costs feel free to contact me…..
