Having trouble when cold.
Any ideas for why the truck will want to die at stop signs only when cold? its a problem i've had for a long time now. as soon as i hit normal temp it runs great.
It idles smooth at start-up and runs fine until i let off the gas and come to a stop. then it chugs and tries to die unless i keep the rpm's up.
- i replaced the idle air control valve but it didn't help.
- i have a pretty new mass air flow sensor so i know it's not that.
- no check engine light or pending codes
- i've done the cold & warm idle relearn routine and while i want to say that maybe it is a little better, it still wants to die at stop signs.
- it doesn't seem to stay on high idle when i start it and its cold. (but its been so long now i'm not sure i remember what it should sound like)
SO, without a scantool that can read live PID feeds to & from the computer, we're gonna have to do some trouble shooting guessing & since it seems to idle ok when warmed up, I'd maybe begin by having a look at the computers coolant temp sensors resistance/ohms value when its cold, to see if its giving the computer a corrupt input about true engine temp when its cold. Here is a link for resistance & voltage values to look for, so break out your multimeter & let us know what you find.
