Steering Wheels
I put a value on my time when deciding to refurbish or buy new.
My steering wheel will have to have the cracks repaired, be repainted, and the horn ring needs to be replaced.
A new wheel from LMC is $200, DC its $225.
I can buy a 64 1/2 Mustang steering wheel, in Rangoon red for $180 from CJ Pony Parts.
I think the Mustang wheel is smaller diameter and doesnt have as deep an offset as the F100 wheel, which my belly would like.
I think the wheel will bolt on and will be compatible with the horn.
I would be doing this on my 75 p/s column.
Has anyone tried this?

red for $180 from CJ Pony Parts.Use with a generator only. The horn ring used with this wheel is also specific to a generator as is the T/S switch and horn ring plastic retainer.
Looks just like a 1965 Mustang (from 8/23/1964), '66 Mustang steering wheel (& horn ring), but it ain't. From 8/23/1964: Mustangs have an alternator, use a different wheel, horn ring/retainer and T/S switch.

Uh huh...

Horn ring same as the steering wheel except for Bronco's / Fix the cracks with epoxy, get special steering wheel paint from automotive paint supply stores.
What's wrong with the horn ring? If the ring hasn't broken, individual parts are available.

Same 2 spoke steering wheels (1/2" smaller in diameter than 3 spoke wheel): 1971/77 F100/350, 1974/77 Bronco, 1975/77 Econoline (except 1975/77 F100/350 & Econolines with Speed Control).
These wheels use a vinyl horn pad.
Rangoon Red specific to trucks, Bronco's & Econolines. No Passenger Car was painted Rangoon Red or had that color steering wheel.
'Course, I've been planning to do this for 20 years. Bathroom scale on the fritz after "She, who must be obeyed" stepped on it. So I dunno if I weigh 300 or 295.

My 66 wheel will go on the 75 p/s column.
In this thread you say a 64 1/2 Mustang wheel will go on a 66 column and the horn brushes and insulators are the same, or am I reading it incorrectly?

If A=B and B=C, doesnt A=C?
Im lazy and all about the path of least resistance, I would rather click and wait for a new correct color wheel to show up on the front porch.
My horn ring is badly pitted, the chrome is in rough shape and it looks like ***.
Ive got a better chance of watching Soylent Green on the moon tonight than I have of losing weight to increase the distance between me and the wheel.
Its a good idea though.
Did you take pics while you did it?
Pics in my build somewhere.
Found a couple pics. ALso note the offset on 73-79 column shift lever puts it in correct place. Actually wish I would have shortened the 77 column up a couple inches.

I never said any such thing. I doubt the wheel will work on a truck.

Mustangs from 8/23/1964 have an alternator, use a different steering wheel, horn ring and nylon retainer, T/S switch.

i refurbished mine. get a tube of "kwik plastik" (made by JB Weld!). Its about $5 at Home Depot.
sand the wheel with emery cloth, mix the kwik plastik between your fingers, jam it in the cracks. let it sit overnight, then sand and repeat.
prime, paint.
i did it over a weekend, and i think it cost me $10 including a rattlecan of gloss paint.
then drop a new (matching) horn ring on it.
Im going to find someone local with a spare Mustang wheel and compare the two.
If there is a way to make it work, Im going to figure it out.
If the Mustang horn ring is present with the wheel, before 8/23/1964: C2DZ-13A809-A .. Horn Ring Nylon Retainer / Also: 1962/64 Falcon/Fairlane and 1961/70 F100/250, 1969/70 F350 with 3 spoke wheel.
From 8/23/1964: The nylon retainer (C5AZ-13A809-B) looks totally different, has a raised center section. C2DZ is as flat as Kansas.
i wouldn't do it in the truck- you will be AMAZED how much dust is generated when you give that thing a good sanding.
First shown to the public at the NY World's Fair 4/17/1964, went on sale nationwide 4/23/1964.
How many of these 'early' Mustang guys know that there were two different hoods, one before/one from 8/23/1964. Do they know how to tell the difference and the reason why FoMoCo changed it?
How many know that there were two different Mustang front fender nameplates, one before/one from 8/23/1964, and how to tell the difference?
How many know about the generator/alternator jazz and the different specific parts (including the T/S switches)?
Attending cars shows, most of the Mustangs guys I've spoken with are as clueless as many Galaxie/Falcon/Fairlane/Thunderbird/Truck nuts.
Why? Because most have no literature of any kind, have next to no knowledge of FoMoCo history, and the sad part is, most don't give a damn.
I may find that there is no way that a Mustang wheel will bolt on a F100 column and function properly, but finding out is 1/2 the fun.
