I recently bought an Insight CTS for my 2003 6.0l. Got it all hooked up with pyrometer, wires run nice and clean, turn it on and it reads almost nothing.
I called Edge and they gave me an update to try and still almost no PID's. At least no useful ones.
I found out that the problem has to do with the custom SCT tune I have loaded in my PCM. The Edge Insight doesn't like the vin number of the SCT tune.
Now Matt at Gearhead Automotive said he had the same issue and was given an update which allowed him to manually enter the vin of the stock tune into the Insight. I've read several threads on this forum where other people were given the same update to manually enter their vin.
I've talked to 3 techs at Edge and all 3 say there is no such update and that it is absolutely impossible to manually enter a vin into the Insight. Edge tells me that I have to get my programmer to change the vin in my program. Matt at Gearhead Automotive says he's never had to do that and everyone he knows with this issue has been able to manually enter the vin into the insight.
Who do I talk to at Edge to get the truth? Who at Edge knows what they're doing?

They're absolutely wrong, because when I swapped my CTS over into an '03 it made me manually punch in the vin for some reason. It annoyed the heck out of me, I don't know what about that truck ticked the thing off but I had to enter then vin then it worked.
As a side point, I have gone back and forth with SCT on it's ability to read the FICM strategy. They claim their tuners won't, I show them and provide links that it will sometimes pull it up, they still claim it won't.
Agree to disagree.
Long story short, the ones that make the product unfortunately don't know that much about their products.
Can you do it through the my style software? I have never had it ask me for the vin and i run SCT tunes but my truck is an 06 that may make a difference.

It's only the 03-early 04 trucks, they don't have the VIN programmed into the PCM.

I have an 03 and yes it does have a vin in the PCM. The problem is that I have a custom SCT tune which puts a different vin in the PCM that the Insight doesn't recognize.
I contacted SCT and it sounds like they might be able to help me out. I'll find out more today.
It just really bothers me when I keep hearing all these people say they were able to manually enter their vin at the same time the the techs at Edge tell me that it is absolutely 100% impossible to do and they even challenged me to find someone who did.
Try this, return truck to stock tune with SCT, then Unplug SCT. Plug in Edge, manually type in your vin and let the unit reset, at this point you should have your PID's back and the VIN is stored into the EDGE. Unplug the Edge and load up your SCT tune, after SCT has loaded you tune, unplug SCT and plug in Edge, you should have all your PIDs.
SCT is making some changes for me. I'll get the files tomorrow and we'll see if it works.
Did this work out for you? I'm planning on using a CTS w/ our 7.3 and then get a DP Tuner. I know that 2/3 of my components are different but I'm trying to head off any issues or at least know how to deal with them.

After a week and a half and 6 hours on the phone with SCT I finally got it to work. SCT kept giving me the wrong file.
With an Edge Insight? IIRC it prompted me before I could do anything. During the load screen where it cycles from OBD to CANBUS to ASCXXX, etc, it would error and I'd enter the VIN.
Not that my $400 Edge POS has worked in four+ years, so I can't exactly go check.

This is correct. I don't curently run a CTS, but I used to in my DMax & at that time, I used it do diagnose & test egr & injector issues on an 04 F250. I definately recall having to enter the vin on the CTS before I could get it to work.
