Thinking about building a performance Diesel engine but I don't really know much about them so I could use some help

 

Do you have a certain motor in mind already and what is your budget for the build? What is the HP and TQ ratings your looking for and what is the motor gettin used for?

 

Not really mabye a 6.2 or 7.3l and around 3,500 and at least 400hp and 500 lb-ft torque and using for Muddin and towing

 

$3500 isnt going to get you far on a 6.2 or 7.3 exspecially once you buy the motor which can cost you up to that amount alone. If I was you I would look into the 6.0 take your time search all over craigslist and you can get them cheap I have bought 2 one for $300 and another for $500. Post on there saying your looking for a bad 6.0. I had an 03 with 225k miles on and ran a race tune as my dd and beat on it with the original tranny. You can pick up a 6.0 with blown head gaskets buy a 6.0 solution kit that will include new head gaskets, arp studs, oil cooler, egr delete, sct tuner and some other little things for around $1000 if you peice it together yourself can save money as I did. That motor right there with a race tune will put you around 400-450hp 800-850tq. It put my crewcab shortbed that weighed 7300lbs with me in it down the 1/4 mile constant 13.7s. Dont let anyone tell you its a ****ty motor with those mods above will be a reliable strong motor putting out good power. You can get the motor tranny and parts all for under $3500 and have cash left over if you shop around.
