429 Valve Adjustment

Hello this is my first post on here. I have a 68 429 that I bought this summer to put in my truck. The guy that I bought it off of had purchased it from another guy who was the actual builder so I have limited info about it. I pulled the heads and pan and it looked good. It is bored .40 over and has a Comp cam with hydraulic lifters. I was told that the cam was mild. What I am unsure about is how to adjust the valves. The heads have already been gone through with screw in studs and dual valve springs. The valves and pushrods look to be original. The rockers are comp high energy pedestal mount I believe. I have been told that I need to remove the inner spring for break in. Also, don't the hydraulic lifters change how the valves need to be adjusted? I am just a novice when it comes to engines so any help is greatly appreciated. Thanks

Dual springs with a hydro cam ? Are you sure your not just looking at a flat wound damper and not an actual inner spring ?
There in no lash in a hydro valve train. The lifters need preload. Being as you know nothing about this build you need to check push rod length. Who knows what was done there if anything. It would be doubtful at this point that it would still need a stock length push rod.

Okay yeah it must just be a damper. Like I said, I am just learning. Now this might be a really stupid question, but if I adjusted the valves with the right preload and there was no play in the push rod, would this work? Or could they still be the incorrect length?
I understand that buying a motor like this probably wasn't the best idea for my first motor, but I couldn't pass up the deal. Thanks for your help
