Ranger to Mazda engine swap

Hi all
A friend of mine is doing a engine swap. The engine he has put into his 94 B2300 is from a 94 Ranger. Does anyone know if the ignition module and crank sensors are the same on these engines? He said the old engine has a sensor on the distributor and the Ranger engine has it in the cover. The engine will crank but has no spark.

Thanks

I don't have the answer, but it might help someone else answer it if you told us what size engine it is and whether or not the 2 engines are the same size.

Wow! Sorry about that.It was on my mind to say they are both 2.3 engines but it just got lost in my mind somewhere. Signs of old age keep creeping in.

If they both are of the same vintage, all parts would swap except the nameplates. They were assembled on the same line, and parts were pulled from the same bins...

However, FED and CA are different. CA has the Cam synchronizer on the aux shaft, the FED does not. Both have a sensor on the crank. All the sensors from the old engine should be swapped over to the new.
