03 model has intermittant engine light on and off. Ford dealer read a ICP sensor problem. Wants 750$ to replace. Anything else I should have them check while they are tore into the motor? Oh yea, I no im getting ripped.
$750! Are you certain about that? Let's make some silly assumptions. Assume the sensor is $150 and the harness $100, that means labor is $500. At $100 / hour that's 5 hours to replace the sensor and pigtail? That's crazy, and it means something is seriously wrong with the estimate. Even if they charged you $200 to read the codes, 3 hours it too long.
The engine does NOT need to be torn into, just the degas bottle and maybe the FICM removed (if done from the top). From the bottom, it's the heat shield. Replacing the pigtail is not difficult or complex.
I didn't know that the ICP error code would be intermittent, I thought that it would be set and stay there.
So.... to answer your question, the only other thing (in my limited experience) to check would be the IPR screen for damage.
Just telling you what the dealer said. Yes im certain. Dont have time to mess with it since I am gone alot so, off to the dealer. I will make them print out a detailed list of what they all did. And I asked the service tech why the engine light comes on for a couple days and off for an hour maybe. I also suggested chaffed wiring but they didnt say anything bout it.
if the truck is cutting of and turning over but not starting i would say the ipr screen since thats what happened to me and it cost 900$ at dealer, also i have a friend who said his icp is out and his truck wants to die when he doesn't give it gas. that sound like what your's is doing?
They are Charging him to pull the turbo even though they wont pull turbo
Yep, flat rate. Dealer goes by the book, if the book says 5 hours and it takes 15 minutes you're paying for 5 hours.
Of course it sucks, but that's how it works. It all evens out, as sometimes the rate will be 6 hours and it ends up taking 10, the mechanic basically worked 4 hours for free.
I'm glad I have never worked flat rate. I was salary for 10 years, which was fine as it wasn't abused.
