2000 F150 Transmission problem...
2000 f-150 Lariat with 5.4L Triton
VIN: 1FTRX17L2YKA59947
Transmission Type: Door Code: U – Automatic 4R70W
Transmission screwed up today on my fathers truck and I'm curious to what could be the possible problem. Any help or advice would be great!
- Truck will not go in Reverse.
- Truck goes into 2nd gear when placed in 1st, 2nd and also Drive.
- When placed it in Drive the truck does not have 1st, 3rd, or 4th Gear.
- Truck stays in 2nd gear when placed in Drive.
- When OD button is pressed, "truck will shift into 3rd gear." When pressed again to try and shift it into fourth gear the truck goes into neutral gear.
The same results happen over and over. The transmission fluid looks new. Truck barely has has over 100k miles and my father babies his truck... So I don't see what possibly could of happened to his transmission. It just stopped working properly when shifting into reverse when pulling out of a parking space at a gas station, "by what he says."
Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks for your time.

The trans is electric control.
It addresses solenoid valves on the valve body inside the trans.
On the outside is a sensor called a DTR.
When you put the selector in any position, the DTR via mutiple leads back to the computer tells the computer what positon the selector is in and what to do with the electric solenoids in the trans.
The solenoids open fluid flow from the pump and select the proper shift solenoid to allow that pressure to flow to clutch paks.
.
My guess is something has come loose or moved out of adjustment.
You need to get under and look at the shift movements to see what may have happened.
The hint seems to be not going into reverse which makes it a linkage issue of some type.
Reverse does not use solenoids and is all mechanical because in reverse there is no up or down shifting that needs any other controls.
Take a look for codes from the computer to see if any are set that points to the transmission.
Let us know what you find.
Good luck.
It may be that the indicator link plastic is broken fooling you into thinking the trans is not in the right gear.
When this happens the indicator will not match the selector position.
Nothing wrong with the trans.
If you 'feel' the shift positions from Park to Neutral to Drive etc, they are all there.
Down at the trans shift lever/DTR area, the cable is adjustable via a serrated clamp assembly.
Hope it may only be this. The indicator assembly is about $40.
Good luck.
