heli-coil or something else for stripped threads on carb fuel inlet?

I stripped the threads on my Holley 2300 fuel inlet. Assuming a heli-coil is the way to go what would the correct size be for it? Never used a heli-coil so I'm hoping to only have to do this once. Thanks.

Oh, my. I didn't realize how expensive the kit is. Not an option for me. Anyone have another idea of how I can fix the threads?

Ain't it 1/4 pipe? At least it should be a pipe thread. You may be able to drill it out to 3/8 pipe and change the filter. Just going by memory not sure of the sizes.

This fix is for an Autolite but the same principle applies: https://www.ford-trucks.com/forums/1...nd-tapped.html

Yeah, that's what I was thinking. Just tap it a size larger and be done with it. Thanks for finding that thread. It validates that it can be done successfully. When I learn more of the terminology I'll be better at finding more useful threads. Thanks again.

No problem...If ya got a question, check out the Tech Thread Hyperlink Compilation sticky in the 73-79 Dentside forum. I assembled "the best of the best" tech threads/posts so it can be found in one place.... heck, I suggest ya head over there to familiarize yourself on what it covers... it's a gold mine.

Loot at what I found. It's a self tapping 1" carb inlet fitting. Gonna give it a shot. Will post my results.

You can't get any metal chips inside the float bowl so you are going to have to pull the carb apart to drill and tap. So you need a carb kit. Plus the repair part fpr the thread plus the carb cleaning fluid for the rebuild.
If you start adding up these costs and factor in the risk that the job might go bad, should you not consider buying a rebuilt carb and getting it over with?
