Fuel priming

I have a 1992 f 350. it was a gas truck. i took out the 351 and installed 6.9, changed the fuel tanks, tranny, wiring etc. teh tanks are bone dry and new fuel lines are bone dry.My question is What is the best way to prime the engine with fuel? to get fuel in lines up to water seperater and fuel filter with nooair blockages if possible.

some of us block off the mechanical lift pump and wire in an electric.
if not doing that, just charge both batteries.....you need two 850cca.....fill the fuel filter full of fuel and just crank for 15 straight seconds.....pause for 2-3 minutes for starter cool down.......crank for another 15 straight seconds and it should be running by then,if not just continue with charged batteries w/ 2 minute starter cool down periods.........she'll go eventually.
be a good idea to plug the block heater in as long as it's a latter 6.9l too.

yeah it will take a royal crap ton of cranking if everything is bone dry. just keep at it following the process outlined above.

A warm block and head will help the fuel to fire off once the system gets primed. With the extended cranking you will experence to get the fuel to the cylinders, the glow plugs will have cooled.

A lot of guys use electric pumps, but for me no...What I have is a trans-cold hand pump primer off an old trailer reefer unit...I know you don't have air intrusion in your situation, but I have had to repair air intrusion twice in about 5 yrs...The primer pump sure comes in handy. I have the pump plumbed in next to the final fuel filter on top off the engine. I also like it because I have a shut-off valve before the pump to isolate the rest of the fuel system and a "T" after the pump so I can "push" diesel clean into the system for an occassional pump and injector cleaning about every six months or so without having to remove the filter and getting all messy...

There was talk about installing primer bulbs a while ago. I like the idea of it. I saw primer bulbs in the boat supply section of my local Wal-mart. I think they had 5/16" and 3/8"
Edit: Something like this: http://www.walmart.com/ip/Attwood-3-...-Bulb/19792646

personally, i wired up an electric pump between the tank and the mechanical pump, wired to run only when the glow plugs are lit or when i hold down a pushbutton. primes itself every time perfectly before i'm ready to hit the starter, but its still the simple old reliability of the mechanical pump

nothing against the primer bulb, but i find the electric to be so much easier
