Dashboard light problem '73 F600
I have a 1973 F600 and my dashboard lights have stopped working? I have bought all the wiring diagrams and wanted some feed back on this problem. I read a post a few months back that this a common problem with these trucks.
Also, I am in the southern California Inland empire area (Chino, Ontario, Pomona) and need a recommendation for a shop or repair facility that is familiar with these medium duty trucks. Any help would be appreciated.

Turning the headlamp switch **** to the right...dims the instrument cluster lamps. If the **** is all the way to the right, next to no lamps.
Headlamp switch contains a ceramic rheostat that corrodes, cracks apart, dash lamps no longer work.
Replacing switch is an EZ fix, no need to take it to a shop.
Remove battery cable for safety. Pull headlamp ****/shaft (one piece assy) all the way out. Reach under the dash, on bottom of switch is a button, push that in...and pull ****/shaft from the switch.
There may be a nut that threads to switch, if so...remove it, switch now free of dash / Switch: D3TZ-11654-A (Motorcraft SW-1157) / 1973/77 F500/750 / Available from Ford / MSRP: $57.93.
Closest source: HOLLYWOOD AUTO PARTS in Pomona has ONE = 909-869-7877 / This is a Motorcraft jobber, located at 145 University Parkway in an industrial park off Temple St near Cal Poly Pomona.
Price should be less than MSRP, if you call or go there in person, ask for the Motorcraft part number: SW-1157 / Gary is the owner, I've known him since LBJ was prez. Tell him "Packard" Bill sent you.
I just want to say that you are invaluable to this board... I really appreciate your expertise in helping all of us keep our trucks on the road and out of the scrap heap... you are right..this is a simple fix... and you just saved this person from getting ripped on a couple of minute job
You da' maan! Thank you for the info. I have changed one in the past, I had a 76 Ford F350 for my demo business that had no lights.
Well since I have your attention, this old truck I have, someone changed the factory fuse block to a mess with the glass fuses. I would like to change it back to the stock fuse block or a similar unit so that I know what circuit is what without it costing me a fortune, Any sugesstions?
