Sealing Ring Reamer?

So I have this 89 F-350 with a 7.3 that I just love. But I developed a nasty misfire very recently and narrowed it down to the copper or brass (whichever it is) sealing ring on the number 8 injector (passenger side rear, I think that's 8).

The truck has needed injectors for a while now and I'm going to buy some rebuilts from I think it's NMB's site or something. But what is this I hear about a sealing ring surface reamer? Is that a necessary step? Where can I get my hands on one? An hour or two of searches netted me no results.

You really don't need that tool. Just make sure the bore where the injector installs is clean. That tool just makes the job a little easier. Some have reported using a shot gun cleaning bore brush to scrub the injector bore.

That's #7 also make sure you get the small copper washer out with the old injector, I use a small dab of grease to hold the new washer on the new injector when installing it.

The tool might be called 'injector bore reamer' or something else like that. It comes in the Rotunda tool kit, and I do happen to have one in my garage. Basically its to clean any burnt up carbon off the injector bore and the washer's sealing surface at the bottom of the bore. Unless its really crusted up in there, you can probably clean it up with a small wire brush (shotgun brush?) and some solvent of choice.

Well upon further inspection, there was no copper sealing ring at all on the old injector. It wasn't even stuck in the bore. Dude that had the truck before me must have replaced the injectors and forgot the sealing ring.

So I put a new injector in with a copper ring, and while I was putting the feed line back on, the flare got all messed up and it leaks pretty badly. The injector seals the cylinder up nicely but I'm dumping fuel all over the back of my engine.

The question is, where can I get just a #7 line besides the junkyard?

Chris... Im sure I have a spare #7 line laying around...

As said above, a wire brush works good for cleaning the bore/seat... Sometimes you can find a drill mounted wire brush that will fit into the bore, and really go to town on it... Just be careful, and use a vacuum to get the crap out of the bore and precup after your done... Even a hose taped to the nozzle and inserted into the pre-cup will get a lot of crap out...

That would be awesome if I could get that line from you. My junkyard search today only revealed a 95 250 with the DIT 7.3 that I was eying the turbo up. Would a turbo like that work on my good old IDI?

Yeah I stopped and got a shotgun brush that a worked perfect. I beat you to the vacuum idea already. I got it nice and clean.
