Weird ABS Problem.

Hello All.

I have a 1999 4WD Ranger Sport w/ 3.0 Flex, Auto Tranny.

I have developed a strange ABS problem. There are no dash warning indications coming from this problem. (no ABS or brake light) and no "codes" on my mechanics reader.

When driving, at any speed the brakes function normally, no problem. When stopping, the front brakes function normally UNTIL actually coming to the full stop. One wheel seems to lose all brakes, as if the ABS, is sensing that the wheel is locked, and all braking goes to the other wheel.

There is a small chattering effect, as this is happening, and some sort of faint mechanical whirring sound.

On normal road conditions, this is an inconvenience at most, however, now that we have had snow, I find that this condition leads to me drifting and pulling or sliding on slippery surfaces.

Took it to my mechanic, who hooked it up to his computer, and tested the sensors. Each came up AOK. He completely purged and bled my brake fluids, and the condition still exists. He has given up on locating the problem, and has referred me to another shop.

Has anyone out there encounterred such an issue?
