looking at another truck

Hello everybody.

Its been awhile since i've been around (too much work too little play time.)

I am looking at another truck i was hoping that i could get your input on it.

V8 7.3L Turbo Diesel
Mileage 150112
Automatic
2WD
Off-Road Pkg
XLT5
Air Conditioning
Power Steering
Power Windows
Power Door Locks
Tilt Wheel
Cruise Control
AM/FM Stereo
Single Compact Disc
Dual Front Air Bag
ABS (4-Wheel)
Bed Liner
Towing Pkg

I know it's not an IDI but for 15,000 i was thinking it would be a good deal for hauling the kids and going camping. Wife also approves getting a truck because she wants the car.

Thanks
Scott

What year is this thing?

Newer than 1999 I hope.

Two years ago I passed on a 97 F350 crew dually 4x4 5 speed with 97,000 miles on it for 15,000.

Probably not a bad deal, and that should have one of the 7.3 Strokes, which I think was a fine engine.

I actually know several guys with 6.0 engines that have not had a minutes trouble out of them, but I know more that have had lots of problems with theirs.

Is it the engine or operator, could be either.

Sounds like its over priced. Check the many on Ebay and you will get an idea of what their going for. Remember follow the ones people are bidding on.

I'm sort of confused about the 2WD and the off road package?

I Guess the guys at the dealer where it is at thinks a 3" lift kit is considered an off road package. Who knows what they are thinking. There is no way a truck that size would do any true off roading. I am going to talk with them again tomorrow and really check it out.

What started us looking for a biger Vehicle is we went camping in the 88 Taurus. We had 2 adults and 4 kids packed in there with all the gear. and drove 75 miles that way. So the wife said we needed something bigger. and i said Quad-cab long bed. and she said yes.

You can do A LOT better.
Check out craig's list.

Besides, there is sometthing fishy about this truck.

I would also stick with the 7.3L and away from the 6.0L, all of the 6.0L problems are "fixable" but the only thing you have to worry about with a stock 7.3L is the CPS (cam position sensor).........normally anyway.

There was a recall for the CPS so have a Ford dealer check on it for you if you buy one.

The truck configuration you posted should sell for under $10K An off road package would be an FX4 which is 4x4 with skid plates under the transfer case and fuel tank. This dealer is smoking crack, walk away from his deal. When you find something you might be interested in run an oasis report on the vin # to see what work was done during the warranty period.

Clean retail on that truck is $12,975. I would think you could pick it up for a bit less.

I would also look for a 4x4. You will be glad you did when you go camping, site seeing and wind up on one of those Arizona dirt roads and would really like to get to the top of that hill or over to that ???? 4x4 will also hold it's value better. There is not that much more to maintain. I would also try to find that does NOT have automatic 4 wheel drive.

Now for a wonder! That truck is 7 years old and been driving over 20,000 miles a year. Where the heck do people go to get that kind of mileage on a vehicle? We use the wife's jeep 98% of the time. She has a 37 mile roundtrip to work, 5 sometimes 6 days a week and we put on just over 7,000 a year. Sales vehicle I could see but there are lots of people that run 15 to 20,000 miles a year and to them, it's normal. They must live in those things.

I'll need to do a bit more research on it and I am still looking too.
The local Ford Stealership has an '04 4x4 for 28,000 they are nuts.

I do believe the salesman is an idiot and this perticular dealer you need to take everything with a grain of salt.

My thought is if it doesn't have 4X4 it will keep me out of trouble. learned my lesson took my 86 2x4 down river took 6 hrs to get it out.

Mileage could be accounted for as a daily driver to Tucson which is 50 miles away. 50*2*5*52= 26000/year. Years ago my father and I put 100,000 on our 88 F250 in one year. We practically lived in that thing.

When I was working I would put 30,000-40,000 on each year going back and forth not counting running around anywhere else. My 1994 Explorer had 282,000 on it when I junked it but was still running fine but my wife got tired of it just sitting. I retired in 2003 and bought a 2003 F250 6.0 and only drive about 18,000 a year. Going to the store and back is 12 miles in the country.
