aggressive stutter or jerk

climbed grade with 15k boat & slide in camper, then about three seconds after 4r100 shifted down out of overdrive,there was a aggressive jerk for a fraction of a second.first thought was trany problems,then wondered if cps could cause this.never got ses light and never did it again,remainder of trip.grey cps 216k on trany.any ideas thanks in advance.

Mine acted like that but it would not work right after the aggressive jerk back, nor would it shift into second. I'd have to get the rpm's up to around 2500 in first and it would shift into third.

Turned out to be the mechanical diode/sprag/sprocket broke in the rear of the tranny.

thats what I thought mech. diode.but trany works great loaded or empty.

'01 = mechanical diode. Its a ticking timebomb... Dunno if that was your issue though. I (barely) made it to BTS at 240k on stock trans.

Here's mine when it broke. Notice the teeth on the left hand side are broken in half. That's the mechanical diode. Yours may simply have slipped or not broken a lot of teeth but if it is the issue than this is what it looks like.
