so as luck would have it my engine oil dipstick rusted out on me so i need to find a new one. I bought 2 of the speed by spectre replacement dipsticks for my 96 5.0L and nether one fits. the tube at the bottom is just a hair or so to big to fit into the engine. Does anyone know of any brands that will fit?
Your new spectre should fit they are tight but they should work ok. I Bought one from advanced auto and it was not the same dipstick as my old one so I returned it and bought one from ford racing I think it was chrome 25 bucks or something. You have to kinda beat the bottom ring to get it in nice and snug its a PITA

Yep, I had the same problem. Had to cut a lengthwise slit in the part of tube that goes into the block. That way it will close up a little as you push it in. Mine also had different markings on the dipstick itself. I had to measure the distance from the seat of the tube to the full mark and copied that to the new stick. Good luck!

thats actually not a bad idea. i should have thought of that. ofcourse that why i am glad i have you guys (and gals) out there to help me out
Mine did he same. I took a torch and melted the epoxy that was holding the remaining piece of the old tube in there. Then I went to napa and picked up a piece of 3/8" (?) brake line. Cut it to the correct length and shoved it in there. I used "Right Stuff" sealant before putting it in the hole and surpisingly its holding up well. Total cost = $3.
