anyone out there using a edge evolution 2 (15001)?i was thinking of using one for guages.i know the egt would be ok because it comes with a probe but how accurate are the tranny fluid temps and boost with being read through the obd2 port?
I had the quadzilla for my guages as I got a deal when i was buying. didnt use the chip it came with cause it screwed up the gauges. had a programmer I aquired for tuning cause I couldnt afford DP.
not sure how acurate they were, but it was nice to have 4 readings right there. htey worked for 4 years. but I did have a button issue come up if I wanted to change anything.
now truck is gone and Van is my new $ pit. I will go with regular gauges I think.
I know its not the evolution you asked about, but I think they are similar.
I ran VO and so I needed to montitor to make sure things were right. after a while I just made that my norm. so when it changed I knew something was up.
good luck, there are always different opinions of what each likes. there are some cool gauges out there
I believe the Edge uses Ford sensors to assess the EGTs, which to my knowledge is not nearly as accurate as a temp probe that you would tap yourself for a PYRO gauge. Same thing with Boost. The tranny temp should be identical to a manual gauge, as you use the existing OEM tranny sensor for both.
So my uninformed / uneducated answer is: Better than nothing, but not as accurate as true gauges you install probes yourself.
There is NO pyrometer input to the PCM at all so in order to see EGT, you MUST install an aftermarket gauge and probe (or electronic device such as the Evolution).
The data that you will see on the Evolution's display will be what the PCM is seeing from the sensors that are supported, which will be every bit as accurate as what you can buy from the aftermarket.

**** Footnote: Unless you have mods that purposely fool the sensors you're getting the reading from. Or unless you're trying to read ECT on an manual transmission (auto is not supported) since that is a little flaky until it warms up some.
Adam as for the edge evolution, Its been the only programmer I've ever had. I was young and dumb doing no research before i purchased a tuner. It gives good power gains, lots of adjustable options for tranny shift points, firmness, WOT Fuel, WOT Shifting, and 60hp, 80hp, and 100hp tunes those stock from edge and custom you can make using the tuner. I don't have the evo 2 just the evo with the attitude monitor. Dose all parameters MPH, Boost, RPM, EGT, Tranny Temp, BATT Voltage, and more. Adjustible LCD display for custom coloring , brightness and contrast. Gauges are in 4 squares digital #s or 2 and 3 bar graph displays.
All the readings seem to be spot on with all the plug in code readers etc. How accurate they are I'm not shure since its the PCM and OBDII port that its coming from. Im shure temps will be close since the rise and fall are so slow compaired to boost egt and rpm can be so quick in change it might be off a tad or slow, but probably real close.
All in all its way better than nothing at all and i think mine works great for gauges. Never had a want to get pyro gauges for any reason. As for using it properly i have fooled with it a bunch and think i got it figured out somewhat. But would love for an expert to get behind the buttons and tune it up.
But I will be keeping my evo for gauges when ever i get up enough for my DP. Maby for Christmas
thanks for the input.the evo 2 comes with a pyro probe for egt's.it was get this for 380.00 or get the glowshift 3in1 guage and maybe pick up a ts or dp tuner.
