lol. i can tell. i won't be needing a tow though......
It sounds like the proper maintenance kit for a 6.ohn0 is a tow strap, beer a lawn chair!!! Oh I'm just playing Eric. Really though, If I were to venture into the "electronic diesel" era, It would be with a Cummins. I'd just need to figure out what to do with the POS Dodge it came with!
I'm good with the HP and reliability my IDI has now, I can't wait for the snow to fall so I can do some foul weather driving with that extra 6 or 7 hundred pounds of engine over my front wheels!
Eric, again it's all opinion, but the first and only Dodge truck I ever owned was a 72ish 1/2 ton, and every time it rained, there would be two pools of water that formed on the hood of the truck because some RETARDED engineer built negative flow into the body. REALLY standing water on a parked truck?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?! Also, the frame was not properly designed to support the torque exerted from the power steering pump, so it cracked and almost fell away from the vehicle! For me, these are the little things that can be prevented that makes a truck a good or bad one, so I've had good luck and bad with GMC, but today my belief is that this Ford might be the last truck I ever own! Of course, I have a few less years ahead of me that you do, statistically speaking!
Two of my buddies work at a tire shop, it has a 6.0L 1 ton van. Thing is in the shop all the time, they do almost a quarter of the deliveries in the owners personal truck.
Granted my buddies are complete **** heads and treat the thing like a drag car. But I do that to my truck, offroad... And she's still going.
Engine and short box aside, it's a nice looking truck. Would look good lifted on 37's.
The biggest problem with a 6.0L is that they NEED to be hotrodded, if your not constantly loaded and going up and down hills complete with some in town driving eventully youll have expensive problems. The district I work for has 8 buses with the 6.0 in all honesty untill the warrenty ran out last year those busses spent more time at the dealer then on the lot. For us the 2 types of buses that are regulars iin the shop are the new(ish) 6.0s and the late 80s early 90s that have a chevy small block (breadboxes) and there true problem is 20+ years of hard use, its just a case of rode hard and hung up wet over the long term.
Oh and before some mentions its the drivers, the same driver can do the same route in a diffrent bus and never have a mechanical issue.
So many people are afraid of the 6.0 it drives the cost down.
EGR delete it and give it a new oil cooler after a coolant flush. That will get rid of a lot of problems right there. Hot rod it every now and then to clean the VGT veins out. Other than that, its mechanical and has HEUI's so things will fail.
05-07 6.0's actually have the least amount of warranty claims on them of all ford diesel's...
Granted hese results were cherry picked a bit to prove a point, but the trend is there. The 7.3L PSD's are listed for more than the 6.0L's, and you can even find some IDI's for higher. They can't give away the 6.0L's.
Up here the only thing about a 6.0L that anybody cares about once it hits the JY (and they are all over our junk yards) is the front grill/headlight setup and the seats. They can't keep those in stock, last time I was at a yard there was a row or 12 6.0L engines, and one 7.3L and it had the highest price tag on it.
I'm with you, I've lusted after the Ex since I first laid eyes on one.
The 6.0/6.8/5.8's are everywhere... I've done the math and it would almost be cheaper to buy a V10/6.0, rip it out and drop a rebuild 7.3 into it than it would be to buy a 7.3L Ex.
if everything goes the way i am wanting it too my 6.9 will be torn apart and rebuilt from the ground up...(sometime in the near future)... and when she is done she will be a show quality work truck.... (most of the work will probably be hauling the 6.0 to the mechanic lol).... i love my idi... but i have kids and i need something that is 4 door... can pull a trailer... and not be a Chevy, Dodge, or anything foreign and if i have my way with this 6.0... it won't really be a 6.0 when i am done with it... so yea... i knew when i posted this i would get some crap for it...(lol but hey what can i say).... its ok... i love my 6.9 and if i could find a 4 door 1 ton 6.9 4X4 that is not rusted gone locally i would be so much happier and i would buy it instead... but i can't... and if i have my way i will own one of those here soon also!
why not drive/fly down south or out west and just drive a clean crew cab 92-97 9th gen crew cab truck home?
seriously, with the net and being to research first, there is no way one could buy one of these engines.
i didn't look for one,but i bet you anything you could find a multi thousand dollar issue listed if not on the first current page, the second one: https://www.ford-trucks.com/forums/forum107/
if you don't find a major current i$$ue within about 5-10 mins, let us know.
if you buy a 6.oh no,you can't say we didn't warn ya.
well curiosity got the best of me.it took little effort and i swear under 30 seconds to make my point:

at time of this post,it was simply the 7th post down on page one in the 6.uh oh section.it didn't take much effort lol.
just image what a guy could find in just current reports alone im talking, not even researching common failures over time,if you spent a whole minute!
we all know you didn't start this thread for nothing.i think you have a little voice saying she sure looks nice and shiny while another voice (of reason lol) is saying something a bit different.
