Plans Change...
Well as things happen, I have to move up my pick up of the Ex, and fortunately the state ferry system just updated their sailings with an extra December sailing from Whittier to Kodiak!
I fly out next Tuesday to Anchorage. Have part of the day there, then stay the night at my friends place, and catch the Ferry wednesday, followed by a 23 hour ferry ride home...
What a whirl-wind of a trip.
Can't wait to get it home and start the fix-up, and get my 05 Ex ready for sale!
what does a ferry trip cost to Kodiak with a excursion? i really want to go this summer as i've never been before. i was reading on the states site but it seemed alittle confusing. do they allow you to stay in the truck?

Winter rates are pretty good. Driver goes free and a 2 berth roomette withe the Excursion was $258 one way.
Summer rates are a bit more. The rates are better if you leave from Homer. You do not get to stay with your vehicle as they are in the hold of the ship/ferry. If you have kids, get a room. You will appreciate it. They have 2 berth, 4 berth and 4berth with facilities.
Kodiak is a great place to visit! But be prepared for rain... As rain is pretty common....
no kids, still young enough at 23 to hope thats a few years down the road! LOL so round trip i'm looking at like $600?! wow! going to have to pre-plan that trip alittle!
Any additional Passengers are $91 each way. The passenger rate seems to stay the same, though they hiked it from $74 to $91 in October. But it had been $74 for the last several years. The car-rate goes up in the summer due to tourist season, and sometimes there are no discounts too...
You need to plan in advance, because certain times of the year the ferry is booked months in advance, with no extra openings for vehicles or rooms. There usually is always room for foot passengers. Some of the people I've talked to on the RV.net forum have come down to Homer, paid to park their rig in Homer, and then rode the ferry over for a few days, and just rented a car for a day, or hitched it or hiked it for their stay, then rode back to Homer.
It's all up to the travelers. Others have ferried their RV over camped and fished for a week, then headed back. All depends on time and resources.
Well the Ex is home, and boy is it a blast to drive! A closer inspection shows that it has the Banks headers, and the Banks Trans command. Even with the studs, and 8 adults in the Ex, it'll do donuts with the throttle barely at half....
In 4x4 and a straight line it'll spin the tires on the snow and ice, and still accelerate like a bat out of you know where
What a blast to drive!
But the stock springs have to go... they just plain blow chunks...
The front is on the stops and the rear slapper bars are fully engaged, and the rear bump stops have less than an inch clearance...
So gotta get the 05 ready to sell so th 00 can have some $$$ to play with

From about 1999 to 2002 Whipple made a kit to fit most of the Fords that had the V10. It was a total kit. They sent me a PDF of the original manual when I asked them.
And it totally clears the stock hood!
It is such a sleeper!
