Shocks. Help

I was installing my hellwig sway bar on my X. and noticed one of my read shocks wasn't screwed in. when I looked closer I noticed the bolts were different sizes. The nut that holds the larger one is missing. are these parts that are included with new shocks or can I buy them. here is a pic of the shock removed. I'd like to get it fixed up properly ideally today.

Pull the good bolt/nut out take it to hardware store, buy a matching nut bolt. Bolt it back in the truck. I doubt anyone is going to know the size off their heads but stranger things have happened.

Looks like someone stripped the upper mount and tried to rig it without a proper fix

Sorry for the delay responding. Looks like they stripped the cage nut and instead of replacing it they rammed that big one in. I wasn't able to find a cage nut at home depot and none of the parts places had them. I ended up going to the dealer and they told me it would be a special order part, who would have thought. fortunately the parts guy went searching for something similar in the back and found me to bolts and cage nuts that were close. They didn't even charge me for them. They fit and the shocks are back in and secure now. Sway bar isn't finished but its partly done. I'll have to finish up when I get some light again.

Do new shocks come with that hardware? I don't like having different screws in it and shock are fairly inexpensive and would be worth it to me to fix it right.

Typically new shocks do not come with the hardware. You reuse your existing hardware.

Haven't there been discussions in the past here about the bolts coming loose over time too? It could be one of them was missing (had fallen out?) and the person who replaced the shocks just stuck the bigger bolt in.
