I have a 05 6.0 everything was going fine on the way home yesterday then when I hit the pedal going up slight incline it was lagging big time. Once I get over 50 or so I hear the turbo start to spin n its ok after that. I know I have # 5 inj to change but what could cause this new problem? I just did oil n fuel filters. Also the egr is unplugged.
Well you won't see this right now but when it warms up you won't have a fan
because the EGR being unplugged will disable the fan controls.
Did you happen to blow a boot maybe. Check the CAC below the driver side
battery to check that flex joint they sometimes brake there. You need to have a look
at the plug on the VGT and make sure it still good. Are you smoking any? If yes what color and smell is it?
After this I'll have to let some of the others take it from here.
The the big black plastic tube that goes from a 90 degree elbow in front of the oil filter underneath the battery on the driver side and mates up toward the headlight and grill area.....
And that would cause this problem? I hope it is that easy!
Wear and tear, oil from the CCV eating the silicone CAC boots, plastic CAC tube on 05 models prone to failure, CAC cooler has plastic end caps that crack.
A common place to start looking I'd the silicone boot on the "hot side" of the CAC system, the "hot side" is the boot and piping between the turbo and inter cooler. The 45* boot is known to rip, check visualy for damage, sometimes the damage can be under the edge of the clamps where you can't see it unless you remove the boot for inspection.
The CAC "cold side" is the boots and piping going from the inter cooler to the intake manifold elbow. On the 05 models the piping is plastic and can crack.
Get to know your truck parts and locations, start with the 2003.5 and work your way up in years.
And not only do they rip or tear, but they also just shred. Mine, right off the turbo, just ended up being like webbing. So, if I felt back there, I wouldn't feel a tear. I could here hissing slowly getting worse.
Pulled it off for closer inspection. That's when I found it looking like webbing.
