It's time to replace the speakers (tired of the rattle sounds). I want decent factory replacements that will bolt and clip in with no modifications.
It's been 20yrs since I cared about speakers so I'm out of touch with technology and brands. Any sugestions? The better the sound the happier I will be but I'm keeping the original head unit so I imagine it's only going to sound so good before the speakers are better than the system.
Just did the stereo in my '99 F250 this fall. Original speakers were literally falling apart. Anyways, I'm hardly an audiophile but I do appreciate a decent stereo. I went with the Kenwood Ford/Mazda 5x7 plate components in the front and Polk 570 in the rear and an Alpine headunit.
Anyways long story short- if you use foam baffles CUT OUT THE BOTTOM. Did that in the front and put a dynamat speaker kit (the 10"x10" for $25) on the rear. After hunting down some rattles this system sounds FANTASTIC. Now there is plenty of room for improvement but considering the cab has 160-200,000 miles on it and the wiring is all original... I'm very happy. Very suprising amount of low end kick, too.
Initially I was unimpressed with the Kenwoods, but I had installed them with the entire foam baffles intact. Opening up the bottom of the foam allowed the entire door cavity to act as a resonance chamber or whatever and just a massive, massive improvement. Probably would have went with those in the rear, too, if they sounded this good right off the bat.
Oh, I used foam tape from Home Depot, like for door weather stripping, to pad where the rear interior door panel vibrated against the sheet metal. Just did that today and so far its working great. We'll see how it holds up over time! Lots of rattles to track down but making superb progress.
if you want i just took the four working OE speakers out my '04.. you can have them for a few bucks shipping if you're interested. i went with 5 1/4" seperates up front and 4-way 6x9's in the rear, Kicker KS series.
HUGE improvement with the sound quality with 2 sets of JL C5-570's in my setup.
Since you're keeping the factory head unit, I'd say just head to Best Buy and listen to a few different types. You can get a decent set for $50-100 a pair. You may also need wire adapters if you don't want to clip the factory plug off....

OH!! Another rattle I had. Watch your wire placement inside the doors with the speakers mounted. In my rear doors the Metra wiring harness adaptors were resting against the door skin and rattling/vibrating something awful.
Rattles are maddening for sure. The plastic casing surrounding my interior rear view mirror rattles like crazy. I haven't figured out a method for fixing that that doesn't involve me ripping into it...
For a little better than stock I would go with the Kenwoods
Speakers. With my last truck I put 4 in and was happy and
they held up. The only thing is you have to adapt or cut the plug.
When I sold the truck I removed the the after market head unit
and put the Ford 6-disk back. Sounded good with the speakers.
I got them at Best Buy I think about $80 pair.

Thanks for the offer but I'm all excited to buy something new. I appreciate the offer though, I just don't want to risk having to change speakers again in a yr or two. Thanks.
I know I can get Kicker and Alpine locally but I've heard some bad stuff about Alpine. Might have to get online and order something. Does anyone have a company that you like to order through?
I bought my C5's off of a reputable seller on eBay.
Crutchfield's always a good path but you'll pay close to retail. I've heard good things about Sonic Electronix but I have not had any personal experience with them.
