Added New Speakers w/Factory HU

Added Pioneer TS-A6880R to front doors and TS-A6870 to rear doors. With the speaker upgrades I dont think I am going to upgrade the head unit.It sounds good to me.The pioneer speakers sound very good for a reasonable price.
Thanks Chris Adams for all his posts/replies on the speakers/stereo.

Are the pioneers noticeably better than stock? I've been thinking of a swap like this, but not sure the stock HU would sound better.

Pioneer speakers

I changed my front door speakers with the Pioneers' and it does sound much better with the stock head unit. I got my paid ar Walmart in their audio/automotive section. I think they were around $50 - $60. For that kind of sound, it was worth the price.

The OEM speakers handle 25 watts, the magnet is kind of small but it worked. The poineers handle much more. Check thier website for specific details.

When I installed them, it took more time to cut the factory connectors and solder the Pioneer wires then it did to put the door panel back on.

Enjoy

Yes ,big diference from the stock speakers..Also today I changed my mind and installed an Alpine head unit....It seemed the stock head unit didnt "push" the new Pioneer speakers well enough(although a big difference over the stock speakers).Alpine unit was roughly $200 installed ,including wiring harness and dash adapter kit. When I installed the new speakers I purchased speaker wiring harness adapters Metra part # 56-7200 ($5.99 for a set of 2) available at BestBuy,that way I didnt have to cut the OEM wiring.Heavy

The Alpine unit I had installed is a CDE-9845.Sounds excellent. The installer used a Metra Dash Kit...looked really bad....gaps....sat too far back in the dash.I read on the forums about a kit from Scosche.Bought it at Walmart .....$10 and some change after tax.........looks excellent.

To recap.....Metra speaker wiring harness....52-7600..Best Buy....about 5 bucks for a pair.
Scosche Dash Kit....Walmart about 10 bucks and some change.

I spent roughly
$130.00 - Speakers
$220.00 - Head Unit
$20.00 - Adapters

Hey,

Did any of you that installed the Pioneer speakers have the audiophile system?

I took these same pioneer's back thinking that they would not work

Thanks

Even better sound

Just wanted to add these to the list of great sounding speakers. I have added the Infinity Kappa 682.7cf(2005) to my system & have never heard / felt such a difference in SQ & can say they are worth every penny spent / But you guys have to upgrade the stock H/U to get any kind of improvement / upgrading only door speakers will cause them to be grossly under powered by stock H/U alone / if you don't want to get rid of the H/U use a highs amp to power up your doors

Just my thoughts

I upgraded my front doors to the Inifinity Kapp682.7CF's with external crossovers, no amps stock head unit, and it has plenty. The rear doors I upgraded to Polks. All I can say is use plenty of Dynamat, because the upgrades will provide a lot better bass and you need to quit the door panels!

If you can, would you post the markings on the back of your speakers that you swapped out? (especially the front) I'm curious to compare these with what I posted in another thread.

KevinM

Were the speakers you mentioned direct replacements? What was the part number for the polks. I have an 05 Lariat XLT with the audiophile and would like to keep the original head unit for now

Thanks

Yes they both were direct replacements. The Polks are db570's The Infintiy Kappa's have an external crossover but intergrated tweeter, that I velcroed in the arm rest of the drivers and passangers door. You have to remove the extra mounting tabs on both. They just snap off with a pair of pliers! If you have the audiophile HU, you may want to get a set of seperates for the front and just mount the new tweeter where the old is.
