Had the heater core changed. How do I get rid of the antifreeze smell in the cab. Prefer not to use airfresheners or anything that covers the smell. I want it gone.
It's been smelling of antifreeze for well over a year. I've just been tolerating it until I was able to afford to have it done. The guy who put the new one in said that he'd wipe out what he could and just try to get the rest with the heater running. I ran the car today with the heater on high while running errands tonight. The smell is still there. Not as bad, though. I'll see what it's like in the morning when I head for work.
Your post has been moved to the HVAC forum where they have faced this problem b4. AFAIK you will need to remove all of the carpet, padding, and insulation that was soaked with fluid. All of these materials must be replaced or washed then re-installed.
Yanking the carpet and all will solve the problem, however, you could try using your shop vac and LOTS of water and some soap first. By LOTS of water, I'm thinking 2-5 gallons (not all at once). Soap it up, put down maybe 1/2 gal of water and suck it all up, then repeat, repeat, repeat until you think you've got it. Don't be afraid to get it good and wet, that's what it'll take and it will dry in a day or two.
