My truck went through an inspection and had to replace that and some other things. Still I always smelt fumes when I was in a regen especially when stopped - I think this is normal.
I never smelled anything inside the cab when mine went into regen until after the oil cooler was replaced. Took it back to dealer and said nothing was leaking. It smells like an old 1980's Chevy Diesel now. I didn't see any signs of soot when I looked at it. Thhought it might have had a cracked or leaking up pipe. Going to have another dealer look at it next time it goes in for service. I don't think this is normal, never smelled that bad the 4 years I have owned it

No. It is not normal. I have the same problem with mine. Twice now. First time bolts from pipe to turbo fell. I fixed. It was a pain in the butt. Now year after, again same problem. There should not be any smell during regenerarion.
I get this on my 2008 F-250 from time to time. I don't think it happens only when the regeneration is happening though. I had not thought about a turbo leak though. I pull a horse trailer all the time with it, often loaded to around 10,000 lbs.
