Starting issues when warm.

My 2005 F350 starts and runs good when cold. If I let it sit for 5 minutes to a hour it seems like it starts on 4 cylinders and a second or 2 later the other 4 kick in. Then it runs fine. Only issue is on the warm start. I read a lot on the search function but no luck yet. Thanks for any help.

Standpipes and dummy plugs
Possible STC

What oil filter and filter cap are you using?

Do you know if it has ever had the STC fitting replaced with a new/improved fitting. It seems like they all fail on 2005 - 2007 trucks. Do you have any gauges? Does it have any DTC codes? How many miles on your truck?

I ordered the the truck in 04. Always had the dealer change the oil. Neveer had the STC fitting changed or the pipes. Was reading about that with the search function. How hard is it to change the STC? It's at the dealer now but no codes come up and its only 1 or 2 seconds before it fires on all 8. I was thinking if it was the STC the firs 4 woulndn't fire. I lost a selanoid once and it only ran on 4 cyl and thats what it seems like.

The STC is a two-piece fitting connecting the HPOP to the branchline. If it fails nothing gets oil.

I would tend to lean towards standpipes and dummy plugs for hot start issues.

I would start by getting a gauge, SanGauge2 works well. This way you can watch your ICP, as well as a lot of other volts, temps ect.

Given your symptoms, I agree with Josh.

Just picked up my truck fron the dealer. They said my FICM is bad. I will change that myself with the directions for this site. Said they got a code this morning on it and also a code for #8 glo plug. No plug in stock. Going to have them put the plug in next week. It came to $235 with a oil change that was due. I can live with that. Looking into buying the oil filter cap for the next oil change. Also reading the 6.0 tech stuff on here. Going to unplug EGR next week. I will post the FICM results when its in. Thanks.

Block or delete the EGR, but don't disconnect it. The fan won't run correctly with EGR disconnected.

Surprised the FICM was the culprit on a hot restart

I agree

Thats Not very Common

The Best thing you can do is send FICM to be Repaired all problems will be addressed plus its the least expensive

a new ficm has the same manufacture Flaws

Might also be good Idea to check Batterys and alternator

Update. Sent the FICM to FICMrepair. I had them do the tune for more HP. Truck runs and starts better. So far warm starts are ok. Also replaced 4 glow plugs. 1 was bad but I did all of them on the drivers side. I will check milage tomorrow when I go to camp to cut firewood. If I still have trouble on warm starts I will do the HPOP STC.

So far it has been starting ok. Before when it was warm it would start but just take a little longer and it sounded like it was only running on 4cyl then 1/2 a second later the other 4 would fire. It starts ok now but the next oil change I'm going to have them reflash it. Also going to clean the EGR this week. I didn't check MPG yet because (somebody left the auto hubs lock in manual) Hmmm. The same person got stuck at camp pulling a tree down. Had the chain tight and couldn't back up. Good thing I had a come-a-long.
