Well there was a metal sleeve that went the rubber portion on the top of the shock. I did not need the sleeve and the bottom part did have a sleeve for the bolt to go through. I did get them mounted. I had to press the sleeve out and then put the sleeve on the bottom for the bolt. It was pain. I also had a very hard time getting the top of the shock to slide onto the stud on the shock mount.
Im not sure what shocks you had but the RS999266 which are the shocks for rear of stock Exs have a metal sleeve type thing in the top eye with a whole on each end that is required to bolt the top of the shock to the body/frame. Not sure if thats what you mean but.... hope you got it figured out.
I have the RS999267 for front and RS999266 for the rear. I know what you are talking about for the rear. The fronts had a sleeve at the top for a bolt to go through. I did not need that sleeve because the top would slide onto mount with the sleeve. However I did need the sleeve at the bottom for bolt to go through. It was almost like Rancho built them upside down. Not sure if I am making sense but I did get the fronts on.
I had a rattle when I hit bumps and I though for sure it was the shocks because they are the original shocks. After replacing the fronts I still have it and cannot figure out what it is. Everything is tight on the front end.
Ok. That is what I thought may be the noise. The bushings at the end links look shot. On the outer part there is hardly any rubber left so I bet the inside has little rubber. Thanks.
I replaced my end links and then greased them after I put them on. I kept pumping the grease in and it burst the rubber boot then the grease came oozing out. Try to avoid that
