any ideas about my remanned inejction pump (im worried it will leak because of some dried out seals maybe?)?The whole truck runs pretty well, starts good when hot (so pump isnt worn?) biut the reutrn lines are cracking and i do think i have a bit of a drainback issue...i just dont wanna mess it up if its running fine right now lol. but the injectors are original (450,000 kms, have grey paint on them) and as is the pump-and it does leak a bit...
that doesn't sound too bad to me. you got in, waited for the GPs to warm up, had to crank for 2-3 seconds, and it roared to life. it sounds like the cold timing advance is working, as it seemed to have plenty of clatter.
what exactly is it about the way it starts that you don't like?
i've found that on mine it starts fastest if i wait 2-3 seconds after the WTS light goes out before i crank it
what kind of rpm's does the tach show while cranking? it seems a bit slow compared to my truck.
how old are the bats, cables, starter. seems like once it hits it runs rine, doesn't miss or anything.
although i have had some air leaks from around my return lines and i have had starts similar to that, mine were a little smoother. i have never had the "typical" start-stall-crank-crank-crank air intrusion though.

his engine stumbles to much on cold start. my truck can sit over night outside in 20 deg F, no block heater, cycle plugs, give a little throttle, bump the key and it is running smooth on all 8.

it coughs for a bit before roaring to life. my dads 300sd benz takes less than 1 crank and it takes off, even in stupid cold weather. saw a fee more cold starts on our idis and they start smoother than mine. if it was actually below freezing it would cough for 10 seconds before starting up.
batteries are fairly new (less than 3 years), all new cables, starter and bero glowplugs. i ran two 1/0 to primary on starter, 3/0 for grounds. no idea about crank rpms, the tach doenst work untill the engine fires. and sometimes it just doesnt work at all lol. WTS light stays on 8-10 seconds depending how cold.
sidenote: i wish my truck always sounded the way it does with cold advance on
very minimal smoke even when super cold. Greyish blackish smoke. it only does that becaus ei have the throttle at half when im starting it, so she gets filled with some fuel.
as soon as it jumps to life, belches the cloud out and no smoke after the initial puff

Buy a first gen 7.3 psd lol. glad i am not the only one that loves that sound. thing sounds mean as hell when it is on cold advance and i am sitting in traffic.

ok that sounds normal.
ya know, another thought i just had was timing. before i did the head gaskets on my truck i had the timing advanced a touch and it started great. when i put my pump back on i left the timing marks lined up and it starts a bit rougher than it did when it was advanced.
tell you what, i will take a vid today when i start it up to go to school and then tomorrow i will advance the timing to where it was before the head gasket job and take another vid at that setting as well.
