Richporter COPs for 5.4?

Are Richporter Technology coil-over-plugs decent or a total waste of money?

School me please.

Never heard of them but let me guess, they increase power and mileage. Waste of money.

There is no claim to increase power or mileage. I saw them at Checker and figured I would ask if anyone had experience with them. From the searches I have done online I haven't found any bad press. People seem to like their distributors.

Either buy MOTOCRAFT and assume you get longer life, or buy a generic set on e-bay for $100 for all 8 and assume they will last 2-5 years. I went with the generic and have one fail about once a year- not a big deal. Takes 15 minutes to change one.

If you look up the name, you find they are an out of country mfger of auto parts just begining to distribute here to the U.S. after market vendors.
On coils, they have no history yet for reliability.
The factory coils are being used on all lines is the standard.
Many other sources fail with short life spans.
The coils live in a harsh enviornent on top of these motors such that the factory coils will still fail at some time.
To make them last the life of the motor would make the expense much higher than they are now for factory OEM coils.
The 'Bobbin' form they are wound on and the Enamel coated wire used is about the best compromise vs cost.
Many other vendors coils are made to lesser standards than we have now.
So it's your decision as to what you will try.
The major problem with coils are open internal winding connections and shorted turns due to heat expansion and contraction from the heating cycles they go through. Copper wire will work harden from movement and eventually break at the location of the most movement.
For shorted turns, the Enamel wears through on the turns as they lay on each other, from heat expansion. Even one shorted turn reduces the voltage output and causes missfires under EGR operation condtions.
Good luck.
