Can you get a hold of a ScaneGauge2 or another gauge to measure EOT and ECT, just to see if it reads different than yours. Also, if you can get to them, you can take the volt readings right from the sensor itself. Did you take note of what the temp readings are cold?

Just throwing some ideas out there.

I would set the truck back to factory setting and drive it for a couple days, see if it stops that system pressure. I dont know. Does that tuner hook up to the OBDII port?

this tuner plugs in under the hood to some main harnesses, near the battery.

Cheezit posted good advice and I read the TSB he referred to. I realized I didn't have all the diagnostic tools so I took it to Ford this AM. OUCH!!!!!!

they said I am back to square one and need new head gasket again. They suggested heads get checked out for cracks. I know they were checked for warpage last time. I ASKED for them to get looked at by a machine shop, but i don't think they did. Oh, I got 12K miles between head gasket jobs on this repair (20,000 KM).

FWIW, I have been running Edge Platinum on level 2 when I tow, and level 1 or level 3 for regular driving. I have not driven hard or like a fool. I have constantly monitored my temps for EOT, ECT, tranny and exhaust. NEVER have any of them jumped high.

Funny tidbit....I removed the new ford rad cap from when last job was done, and put on my other new Ford rad cap. They did it again!! They put on another cap and charged me $16.

cheezit & any/all others, how long does it take to do the TSB procedure, and what is a reasonable amount of time to charge? I'll post after what I was charged. i don't want to taint anyone's answer.

real time or bill time that is two different questions.
time to do the tsb uis relitive as to what part of the tsb needs to be done.

both; book time & reality time. I thought that no matter what, if I come in with coolant puke complaint, they're gonna walk through the entire TSB procedure and ignore most of what I say. I told them about the many Ford rad caps (which I have a tough time believing were all faulty), sniff test, and temperature difference test for ECT vs. EOT. So how much they felt they had to do after that... I have no idea.

I expected shop would charge me a flat rate of max 1 hour for diagnosis, even if they went a bit over, especially at $123/hr. And the BS 'spiel ahead of time about how they wanted to help me, work with me, create a new customer, , might also indciate they'd charge me a nominal amount. i was expecting no more than $100.

they concluded: "Road test with pressure gauge. system badly overpressurizing. Vehicle has head studs. Will require heads removed and sent out for crack testing".

never did get a clear answer on my EOT vs. ECT.

bismic, I have Ford head gaskets.

labor of 25-30 hours is normal.
parts and labor run about $5500 give or take depending on parts needed.
diesel diag is 2 hours in most shops too.

ok, thanks. I was looking for the diagnostic time, so 2 hours sounds pretty standard.I probably feel a bit more prison raped with a $300 diagnosis bill to tell me I need to spend $8,000 to fix something that just got fixed 10 months/12K miles ago.
