engine storage and oil
I'm not planning to do this, but I was wondering.
What good does the oil in the pan do when an engine is stored? Would you be any worse off if the pan was drained -- assuming that you filled it before you started it up again!
Just thinking about it, there doesn't seem to be much oil coverage -- rod bearings if you're lucky -- or am I wrong? (as I often am)
Appreciate any comments,
hj
My dad had a wrecked C600 that sat for years. He rolled it out and pulled a valve cover and there was still a drip of oil hanging on a valve spring. I'm thinking this thing sat for 20 years! It fired up and ran smooth as can be... ymmv on that one.
Drain it and fog it if it can't be turned over.
Take it apart and cosmoline it if it can't be fogged and you are expecting real fog.
