valve chatter?

valve chatter?

When starting my 302, it makes a significant amount of noise which sounds like valve chatter. It seems to go away as soon as the oil pressure rises to normal.. Could i have a bad oil pump, or a worse problem? I also have a oil pan seal that needs changing, is that a factor also?

Its the oil draining back down into the oil pan and the lifters take some time to pump up. I'd use motorcraft filters, they have a anti drainback valve to keep the oil from draining back into the oil pan.

could it be your bearings. on an old toyota of ours it does that because we put some crappy very heavy oil in it so now the oil does not flow to good

The bearings mentioned are cam bearings.
