Hello all I'm looking for some information, Trucks not mine it belongs to the local volunteer fire department I run with, Its a 2005 F550 6.0 crew cab 4x4, I think there are two filters one on the intake under the hood where is the other?
Truck started runing rough at start up and lots of black smoke/any ideas?
and don't forget to take the water separator off the frame and clean that bad boy too! See too many of them get clogged solid with sludge and cause all types of problems. All you need is fuel line disconnect tools, any auto store will have them for under 10 bucks
my boost is usually abt 20psi when at full throttle i have seen it go a bit higher when going up grades but not much, when just going down the road im usually at abt 10, oh i carry a full 150 gal tank of diesel at all times other then that im empty
my truck seemed a bit slugish i changed all filters and oil adde fuel kleen seem to run fine for a bit then back to slugish so i did the blue spring mod and wow truck runs like new if not better
If the fuel filters didnt help it could be several things but I'd start by checking the egr valve first just to make sure its not stuck open. A stuck open egr valve will cause lots of black smoke and low/no boost on acceleration.
How would I check the EGR valave and it doesn't do it all the time its spuratic, Dealer said it could be turbo weakness from setting and not getting run truck runs at least three four calls a week so I dont think thats it.
