I would recommend that you do NOT get them from an autoparts store UNLESS they have the white aquabloc membrane on the primary (large) fuel filter which aids in water removal from the fuel. Dieselfiltersonline.com has great prices on factory fuel filters as does an IH dealership. The procedure should be in the tech folder at the beginning of the 6.0 forum.
Motorcraft or Racor only. Don't cut corners here or with the oil filters. It can cost a lot more in the long run.
You can also use Navistar/International branded filters, they're made by the same folks that make the Ford/Motorcraft (Racor). As pointed out above, if you can wait a couple of days...Diesel Filters Online is by far the best place to get the filters. The savings stack up the more your order at a time. And if you've got the $$$ laying around to get a $250 order together, the shipping is free.
aftermarket filters do not fit 100% (no matter what the company's marketing states or what the store salesman tells you).
Racor is the OEM manufacture of the filters and the housing (oil and fuel). Using non OEM made filters will not fit and perform 100% for obvious reasons (the filters were designed to fit the housing. To get around the patents on the filters, "will-fit" filter company's have to change something as not to violate the patent (enough said).
The advice that has been given in prior posts is 100% accurate. I personally buy by filters at the local Int'l truck dealer for 1/2 what the Ford dealer sells them for!!!
I do not have the IH fuel filter number handy... but asking for the filter that fits the 6.0L or VT365 will get you the WRONG filter (Int'l uses a different fuel filter on their motor).
Buy Motorcraft oil filters at Walmart for $19.00 or so (best price around and easy to buy 1 at a time as needed).
