Front End Alignment

Anybody know of a good front end shop in the Waco-Austin Texas area that can set the toe-in on my 172" F-250...

Took it to the dealer a couple of Saturdays ago and was told that it was normal for me to keep a little left load on the steering wheel to keep it straight... When I turn loose of the wheel it will dive right to the bar ditch..

I was told by the service rep that it was radial pull and that rotating the tires would stop it...

NOPE...

Anyway... Anybody

I would look for the mom & Pop shop that has been in the area for a long time and not a national chain. Stop in and talk is the best solution. I have 2 top notch shops near me but I prefer only one.

ANY alignment shop can set the toe, its extremely easy. That being said, toe has no effect on pull. Caster is the biggest influencing factor when it comes to left or right pull. The fix would be to either reduce caster at the left wheel or increase the right. Personally I'd reduce the left (regardless of what the pre-adjustment numbers are) to help avoid the front-end wobble that some of these trucks are known to develop. Excessive caster is a major contributing factor to this issue. Caster (and camber) changes are accomplished on solid front axles by installing eccentric ball joint bushings and then clocking them to get the desired angles.

Also I recomend swapping frt tires right to left. To make sure you dont have a radial tire pull.thats the 1st thing I would do. Then if it is no different. I agree above a mom and pop center will go outside of the well it is in specs, and will do what is described above.

I have had the same issue since day 1. Has had 3 alignments done and it still pulls. Service rep tells me the pull is for "safety", as the truck will veer to the right if hands are off wheel, fall asleep, etc... Yeah right.

Never had any of my current or previous cars, trucks or suv's do this.

My 2012 has 32K miles now and I am just living with it.

Mine does the exact opposite, always pulls to the left. I attribute some of this to the positive charge in the bilstein stabilizer.

Dealer did rotate the tires and told me it was fixed... Nope still pulls.. I go to work at 5 am so I don't see many folks on the road... I purposely drove on the other side of the road this morning as it is banked to the left.... yep still pulled to the right... it isn't like it's gonna jerk the wheel out of your hand or nothing... but it does require you to pay attention to keeping a constant bit of pressure to the left...

Guess I need to get a service writer to take a drive with me...

Wonder how that'll work out for me...

I doubt if the dealer will go outside the bubble and install upper joints (as mention by P. Bronner) that would be adjustable, I would look to an independent shop.

The dealer will see within specs and call it good. it can be at a lower caster on RF and a higher posative on left frt but the frt end machine puts it in specs, tech is done, unless you find one that will correct issue. as been said before a local mom and pop will be willing to fix it right. If you can go to dealer and ask for the specs from your alignment they did and please post them.

They come from the factory with the upper ball joint caster/camber adjustment sleeve; the problem is that you must go to an alignment shop that stocks an assortment of the different sleeves which are selected and also rotated to achieve the results.

There are seven different sleeves listed for the RWD and five for the 4WD; I don't know if they are unique between the two or not. The sleeves have 8 different positions they can be rotated.

The chain shops are all about time and how many can they get across the alignment rack; too much work breaking apart the top joint and swapping and rotating sleeves......

The factory specs for HD (camper pkg, snow plow, etc) have less caster than non HD.

sampling: .............. std......HD
250/350 RWD pick^ 4.0 .... 3.6 degrees
F250 4WD pickup .... 3.5 .... 2.8
F350 4WD pick^ .... 2.7 .... 2.1 (SRW)

My 08 dually had a pull to right; got nowhere with dealer. Found small shop and he took the time to find problem. He is now out of business
