I just had all new ball joints, fronts shocks, front bearings (inner and outer) installed Feb 26th. I got a front end alignment done this past Saturday morning. I noticed this morning, not sure why not sooner, that my steering wheel is not turned straight anymore..I just mean that it looks like the steering wheel is turned already. I'm sure it appeared straight before. Could this have happened during the alignment? Anything to "worry" about? Other than my #@%& steering wheel looks like I am turning.
Steering wheel alignment should be maintained during the alignment process. Take it back and insist the alignment shop straighten it. If they honor their warranty or their reputation, they'll jump right on it. Shouldn't take more than a few minutes if the alignment rack is open.
hdgapeach is right. No alignment guy with any pride at all would let it leave his shop like that. What they probably did was adjust toe by making the adjustment on one side only while paying no mind to the steering wheel.
Make 'em stand by their work. Don't settle for anything less.
I've already called them. "Happy" to make it right they said....Huh, I said. Why not the first time? Gonna try to make it in there this evening on my way home from work.
I had to resort to going to a chain place to get it done that day. I usually avoid those places for anything. Firestone.
I wanted to have it done a very reputable local place. Small garage with a very respected alignment guy. The wait was too long.
Yep, the "wait is too long" could be a sign that there's a guy workin' in there that knows his way 'round an alignment rack! Wish I had the $$$$ to start an under-body shop here where I live. We're hurtin' for a good alignment and suspension shop around here.
The toe is probably fine, it's just that the steering whell wasn't perfectly centered when he did the alignment. When I did my alignment, I thought I had the wheel straight, but it wasn't so it leans a little one way. I was too lazy to put it back on the rack and go through the whole alignment again, so I just deal with it. I actually like it, it's more comfortable the way I can hold the wheel now!
