i have a 89 f250 with a 460 and plan on swapping out with a 6.9 and 4speed, the question i have is will it bolt right up in the 460 mount location or will i have to move the crossmember, any info would be great
On mine, the 460 frame mounts were riveted on. Cut them off with a torch, and bolted up the diesel frame mounts off of the donor truck.
And the frame mounts that I am referring to are what go between the engine cross member and the rubber isolated motor mounts. Crossmembers are all in the same location, regardless of engine.
If it was me, I'd keep the 460. Properly tuned, I've gotten 12-13mpg out of one in a '86 crewcab with 4-speed and 4.11 rear. The 6.9 isn't worth swapping IMHO.

Yea maybe if your empty and never go over 45 mph down a hill. I have owned several 460s and they all get single digits unless youy are parked.
I am going to go this route also. I have a strong low milage 6.9 in my extra cab but I want a CCab so I plan on finding a nice gas cc because poeple are giving these gas pigs away now.
The 460 crewcab stayed hooked to a 24' gooseneck horse trailer with living quarters. That's running 55-60 mph. The older lady that is driving it now still gets 13mpg with the trailer.
